To celebrate Yanks back in Saddleworth run by ww2events 9th, 10th & 11th August 2013, where Living History Re enactors take you back to world war 2, and re enacts the convoy that featured within the film “Yanks”. Here at Saddleworth Vintage and Handmade, we are forced to operate outside the formal economy, supported by the Established State power for goods and services, creating our own online black market! The White Market will be held at Saddleworth School where you can see our very own Lipgloss & Lenses, and book in for that vintage style pamper party. On the Black Market Luxury goods seemed to be readily available, illegally and at a high price. Brought over by the American soldiers, or sold by savvy businesses under the counter. Black market goods were always excessively expensive and considered luxury items. The black market will open until the 11th August 5pm, the individual businesses will contact the winners about the contraband. Our Black Market comes from a taste of that Luxury and sort after products such as Jeweller Caroline Royal “Something Old Something new” cufflinks made from Vintage British Rail buttons, all you have to do is tell her why you should own those cufflinks! Also jewellery up on the black market are fresh water pearl earrings, part of the “Pearl Harbour” range, ideal jewellery to set off those vintage dresses, or a gift from your very own soldier, Like Agentshowcase facebook page and tell me why you should win those earrings! Little hands vintage baby are giving away black market booty! Tell the maker why you should own those booties! Famous line in Yanks “I’m pregnant” reply “so is half the bloody town love!”
Tea With Tom are giving you the opportunity to have afternoon Tea, for two, within their quirky Vintage Van. An idealic Saddleworth Location perfect setting to escape! Just follow the link and tell them why you and a friend should win that memorable treat! From the fabulous Slaithwaite Emporium they shall be giving away a fab 40′s poster! The next 4 exhibitors at the fair are a wealth of Vintage lovelies.

Loving the beautifully crafted hearts and home decorations offered by Sara Gartside – a designer that is reasonably well known in the area with samples displayed in both Betty’s Chip Shop and Delph Natural Health.

Jubilee celebrations in Saddleworth are sure to go with a swing thanks to ambitious plans for a vintage festival.
Central to the bank holiday weekend celebrations in June will be a 1950s themed Vintage and Handmade Fair showcasing the best in local vintage influenced designers, makers and manufacturers.
The event has been put together by local jewellery designer Samantha Mills, SJM Designs along with makeup artist Lisa Gee and photographer Jude Gidney, who together run a vintage pamper party business, Lipgloss and Lenses.
“The fair and the festival are about marking the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee, but more importantly they are about celebrating the wealth of creative talent we have in the region,” said Lisa. “In these times of economic hardship it is more important than ever that we support our local creative businesses.”
The fair, at Uppermill Civic Hall on June 3rd, is being promoted as an official event of Craft and Design Month. Key exhibitors already confirmed include internationally renowned Manchester jeweller Caroline Royal, Oldham Oxfam’s vintage collection and vintage reproduction clothing company Limb, based in Mossley.
Several exhibitors, including Delph’s Hazelnut Bakery, will be producing specially designed collections for the fair, influenced by the Jubilee and the 1950s. The fair will also feature a vintage tea room, run by and raising money for Dr Kershaw’s Hospice.
Additional events and entertainment are planned throughout Saddleworth during the weekend , which also features the famous Whit Friday band contests. A number of workshops will take place throughout the day at the fair, including vintage hair and makeup demonstrations by Lipgloss and Lenses. A website has been set up to promote the event, www.saddleworthvintage.co.uk.
Lisa added: “This is not just a one-off event. We hope to build up a network of local creative and vintage businesses so that we can all support each other. If the fair and the festival are a success we will look at making it an annual event.”

The first three of our exhibitors at the Fair on the 3rd offer a wide range of services from yummy delicious cakes, miniature replicas of buildings and restorations of old or damaged photographs and images.
Hayley, from Rainbow Delicious Bakery, will be offering cake decorating demos on the day and we are told will have a surprise creation to wow us with – have you seen her famous Cookie Cones? They are a sight to behold.
Alan Tolfrey, Mossley Model Maker, is a genius at recreating any well love building or work place into a miniature replica to surprise and delight visitors. Come and see his creations, boxed as delicate to the touch although painstakingly put together by hand. Alan has told me that his recent model commission is one of a local school, and that children have been fascinated looking at it as though they are giants and seeing their learning centre from a bird’s eye view.
Symon Randall, Restor8 Design Solutions, has photoshop skills and the patience of a saint. Come and see his amazing work, and listen to the hours he spends in such delicate restorations. His interests lie in bringing images back to life from battered and damaged states, or simply just aged and yellowing. I’m personally hoping that he’ll bring his history line of photography with him. And he tells me he’s already got his Vintage outfit sorted for the day – roll on the 3rd!
So put the date in your diary – 3rd June, Uppermill Civic Hall. 10-4pm. Looking forward to seeing you there.
